Itinerary

Day 1

Atins / Rio Negro / Baixa Grande Oasis

Departure from Atins, Lençóis Maranhenses: PlanetaEXO’s local partner will pick you up at your accommodation in Atins at 6:30 AM. The 4×4 ride to the Rio Negro trailhead takes about 2 hours, with a stop along the way for breakfast and sunrise over the dunes. From Rio Negro, the trek follows a marked route over the dunes toward Baixa Grande Oasis.

The 6 km section takes roughly 3 hours, including stops at the freshwater lagoons along the way—plenty of time to swim, photograph, and rest in the shade of the few palm trees inside the oasis. Expected arrival around 10:30 AM. After lunch and rest, the group returns to the dunes for another swim and sunset. Dinner and overnight at a local family’s home.

Day 2

Baixa Grande / Rio Negro / Canto do Atins / Atins

Wake up early to catch breakfast at the family’s home at 7 AM. The trek back to Rio Negro starts at 8 AM and follows a similar route to Day 1, with lagoon stops along the way. Expected arrival at the trailhead is at 10:30 AM.

A 4×4 vehicle picks the group up and drives to Canto do Atins, where the Preguiças River meets the Atlantic Ocean. This stretch passes through small fishing villages and mangrove vegetation. Lunch is at a restaurant in Canto do Atins. Afterwards, the group is driven back to Atins and dropped off at each traveler’s accommodation, marking the end of the journey. Expected arrival at around 2 PM.
