What you need to know about Jalapão tours in Brazil

Before you book, here is the lay of the land. Jalapão State Park spreads across more than 158,800 hectares of Cerrado savanna in Tocantins, northern Brazil, a remote land of golden dunes, ancient rock formations, waterfalls, and the famous fervedouros (springs where the upward water pressure makes it impossible to sink).

Almost every trip starts in Palmas, the state capital, whose airport (PMW) has direct flights from São Paulo, Brasília, Belo Horizonte, and Goiânia. From there it is a 4 to 6-hour drive on mostly unpaved roads to Mateiros or São Félix do Tocantins, so 4×4 vehicles are standard.

Our 4- and 5-day Volta ao Parque tours—based on carefully planned itineraries that go against the traditional tourism flow—loop through the park away from the crowds, taking in fervedouros, waterfalls, dunes, and river beaches at an easy pace. Authentic immersion away from the crowds.

Go further with the Jalapoeira Crossing, a 6-day trek of more than 50 km across the state park, or the Vivências tours built around deep contact with nature and the local Cerrado communities.

Whether you want an easy loop or a multi-day trek, our Jalapão tours pair you with expert local operators who know this remote park firsthand.
