Before you book, here is the lay of the land. Chapada dos Veadeiros is a national park in the state of Goiás, a 655 km² highland of the Cerrado, Brazil’s vast tropical savanna, full of canyons, quartz plateaus, and waterfalls.
Most trips are based in Alto Paraíso de Goiás or the village of São Jorge, the park gateway, about 250 to 270 km north of Brasília, the nearest major airport.
The classic experience is trekking to the falls: Santa Bárbara’s turquoise pool, the Loquinhas, Cachoeira dos Cristais, and the Rio Preto canyons inside the national park, with swims along the way.
