What you need to know about Abrolhos Islands tours in Brazil

Before you book, here is the lay of the land. The Abrolhos Archipelago is a marine national park 67 km off the southern coast of Bahia: five volcanic islands surrounding the largest and most biodiverse coral reef in the South Atlantic, nicknamed the “Amazon of the Seas.”

There are no hotels on the islands, so trips run by boat from Caravelas on the mainland, a crossing of about 3.5 hours. Access is controlled by the national park, landings are allowed only on Siriba Island, and every visitor pays a park fee.

Abrolhos diving liveaboard

Our 3-day, 2-night diving liveaboard is the most complete way to experience Abrolhos: you sleep aboard a catamaran and dive day and night around the islands, the chapeirões, and the shipwrecks, far from the crowds.

Snorkeling, the chapeirões reef & the islands

You do not have to be a diver. The clear, shallow water over the chapeirões (mushroom-shaped coral pinnacles) is ideal for snorkeling, with sea turtles, reef fish, and a guided walk on Siriba Island.

Humpback whale season (July to November)

From July to November, humpback whales gather around Abrolhos to breed and nurse their calves. The liveaboard is a diving expedition rather than a whale-watching tour, but you may spot whales from the boat between dive sites.

Whether you are a certified diver or a first-time snorkeler, our Abrolhos tours pair you with the local operators who run these waters firsthand.
