What hikers tell us

Real feedback from travelers who trekked Brazil’s parks and peaks with us

Hiking in Brazil: Which trail fits your trip?

Brazil covers 8.5 million km² and holds seven distinct biomes, so hiking is less one trail than a dozen different worlds. You can trek a 2,810 m sandstone tepui on the Venezuela border, cross white dunes that fill with rainfed lagoons, or follow canyon rivers through one of the planet’s oldest mountain ranges. The country protects more than 70 national parks, and the best Brazil hiking trails sit inside a handful of them.

Most hiking trips in Brazil cluster in four regions. Chapada Diamantina in Bahia is widely rated as the country’s finest multi-day trek, while jalapao-tours/”>Jalapão offers Cerrado crossings between dunes and spring-fed pools. Lençóis Maranhenses is a 1,550 km² dune field where you walk between freshwater lagoons, and Mount Roraima is an 8–10 day, 90 km expedition onto a tabletop summit

Season decides where you trek more than whether you trek. Brazil sits in the southern hemisphere, so its dry months run roughly May to September, the steadiest window for trekking, with firmer trails, clearer skies, and easier road access to remote trailheads. The wetter months turn the Cerrado green and fill Lençóis Maranhenses’ lagoons (best July–September), while Mount Roraima trekkers favor its own drier window of December to April.

Hiking in Brazil is a guided and logistics-supported experience. Multi-day treks like the Vale do Pati or Roraima need local guides, porters, and pre-booked camps or village homestays. Trips depart from regional gateways: Lençóis and Salvador for Chapada Diamantina, Palmas for Jalapão, Boa Vista for Roraima, and São Luís for Lençóis Maranhenses.

Not sure where to start? The treks below are filtered by region, length, and difficulty so you can match a route to your fitness.
