Before you book, here is the lay of the land. Itacaré is a small town on the Cocoa Coast of southern Bahia, where the Atlantic Forest meets a string of jungle-backed beaches. It is best known for surfing, slow travel, and easy access to waterfalls and rivers.
The gateway is Ilhéus and its airport (IOS), about 70 km (1.5 hours) north of Itacaré by road, with connections from Salvador, São Paulo, and other Brazilian cities.
Itacaré is one of the best places in Brazil for new surfers. Our 4 and 6-day surf lessons put beginners and improvers on gentle, sandy breaks like Tiririca and Resende with patient local instructors.
For something different, the 7-day Cocoa Route ride from Ilhéus links cacao farms, forest trails, and coast, a hands-on way to taste Bahia’s chocolate heritage.
Beyond the tours, Itacaré rewards exploring: eighteen beaches, forest waterfalls, and rafting on the Rio de Contas and the nearby Maraú peninsula. Our Itacaré tours pair you with local guides who know the Cocoa Coast firsthand.
